MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!

—————————————————————————-

Congratulations to Team Filf for winning TSFBL Season 3!  The team defended their title from last season and was victorious! Returning teammates Antwon, Frank, James, Dan and new players added to their mix started off winning their first game.  From there, it was a struggle due to injuries and chemistry, winning their first game and only game. They were tied for last place going in to the playoffs. Their big man Lennie recovered from a chipped ankle, played big on both playoff games.  Antwon, Wes, James, Tony and Frank played tenacious defense along with the veteran Ren. Ren said “I can’t believe it, I’m 53 yrs. old and another championship!”  Having to play back to back games and beating the undefeated Lakers, says a lot!

PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES

As an organization that promotes the total development of the person, the thirty something friendship basketball league (TSFBL) believes that there is more to life than winning; that good health, good character, and mutual support are the guideposts to a meaningful life. TSFBL is committed to the promotion of these virtues by engaging in a friendly, yet competitive, basketball tournament that:
• promotes physical fitness;
• develops camaraderie, family entertainment and fun;
• provides opportunities, networking and helping one another.
TSFBL will faithfully bring this threefold purpose to bear on all its games and activities.

IMPLICATIONS OF TSFBL’s GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

1. The TSFBL committee will do everything humanly possible to balance all teams. But, if one or two teams appear to be stronger at the end of the process, this is a non-issue, as far as the organizers are concerned.
2. Players cannot choose their own team simply because “I don’t know anybody on my team.” Part of building camaraderie and networking is precisely to meet new friends and socialize with them before, during and after games
3. There is no place for tactics with intent to harm (in order to win) during tournaments because they will just create tensions among players and adversely affect what the league is trying to promote. However, we expect everybody to play hard and really have fun.
4. We encourage all players to socialize with as many individuals as possible. The person on the bench next to you might be the next mayor of Bloomfield Hills, or the next lotto winner.
5. While bad calls made by the referees may be legitimately questioned, they should never be used as opportunities to disparage or slight the referees. The League has a mechanism in place for ”incorrigible” referees, while also aware of the limitations and challenges of refereeing.
6. The threefold objectives of the league can still be met even in defeat. Thus, while winning is emotionally fulfilling, it should never blind us from what the objectives of the League.
7. TSFBL committee and the team captains are expected to be pro-active and in control of situations that require decision-making and player management during the tournament.
8. Players are encouraged to bring their families, relatives or friends to the games.
